Boys Weekend 2011

Dave – a rough day on the water

#3 Dave here,

A few weekends ago we had our annual “Boys Weekend” at the Donner cabin.  We have been doing this for several years now and it’s a time for the uncles, nephews, brother-in-laws and select friends (who have to meet certain initiation criteria – cooking ability, access to fine foods/wines at low cost, etc.) to get together.  We always have a great time and the chance to “bond” and share family stories, as well as get out and do some fishing, golfing, etc. is very special.

Much that goes on is highly confidential (think of the great Freemason’s of our country – some of you made need to look this up – or just read any Dan Brown book like I do), and cannot be shared as we set the course and guide our family’s future.

Needless to say, we enjoy great food (especially all the treats that Mo sends up with uncle Joe), wine, leisure time and fantasy football strategy sessions.

This year Dad (Bert), Joe, Dan, Pat, Jason B., Steve, Paul, Jim Maher, John Holden and myself attended.  Mom thought this was such a neat thing that we did…..and I am so happy the girls of the family had their first “girls weekend” this year….you know mom would have been there with you (and probably was).

Hope everyone is doing well and gearing up for the Holidays…..Dave

  1. I’m a little concerned the future of our families is being discussed on these trips by “Hubcaps, Wingnuts, etc…”. Lord help us all.

Glad you had a great time. The Girls trip was awesome and I can’t wait to do it again! Mom was definitely there, especially during our productive Truckee shopping excursion(s)!
    xo

  2. Dave – Boys weekend sounds like a great time and I love the pictures! Dad has already promised me a fish dinner the next time I’m home!
So, as you “set the course and guide our families future” have their been discussions about us all living on the same block? My secret dream is that we take over Silver Trail and all live there together. I’ll make it happen if I can get about $20 million in funding…
I’m glad The Girls had their 1st annual get-together too! It was a great time and Mom was on my brain a lot. Especially while me, Sharon, and Christie were swimming at Sand Harbor because that was something Mom loved to do too. And as Christie mentioned…our shopping excursions & the stop at the thrift shop! And so many more memories…
    xoxo!

  3. This “Boys Weekend” has some similarities (or hilarities) to those “boys clubs” in Congress-particularly setting the course, guiding our nation’s (family’s) future and highly confidential while out on the yacht or having gourmet dinners. Hmmm!

I am glad both the guys and the gals were able to escape for a few days of carefree bliss! There is no better way to get a perspective on life than by hanging out with an assortment of wingnuts, hubcaps and pot holders….whom I hope to join some year.
    Best to All….

  4. I sometimes forget about the blog, but then one of you reminds me and asks, “have I checked it lately”. Embarrassingly I usually say “no”, but then I go and check it out. I don’t think I have ever read the updates and comments without shedding a tear (or some times many). The summaries of the special memories are treasures. Thanks to all for keeping them alive!
    Dad
